Metallica's Auckland Concert: A Gigantic Production!
Tonight, the iconic metal band Metallica will rock Auckland's Eden Park, and the scale of this event is mind-boggling. This concert, alongside a major academic conference, is set to fill every hotel room in the city, according to RNZ.

The gear alone is a logistical marvel, requiring 25 trucks, 19 sea containers, and half a plane's worth of equipment from Metallica's base in San Rafael, California.
The lighting and video production is equally epic. A dozen lighting experts manage 200 moving lights, 200 LED lights, 12 spotlights, and an intricate setup of trusses and remote operators. Meanwhile, a video crew operates a massive display with 16 cameras, a spidercam, and a remote dolly cam, all synchronized to create a visually stunning experience.
But the real showstopper? The sound system. With 150 dB per output, the speaker setup is a beast, featuring 120 speakers around the stage, 48 at the back, and an impressive array of subwoofers and floor wedges. Fun fact: the speakers under the stage were once used to test space shuttle components due to their powerful low-frequency vibrations.
Getting to the gig is an adventure in itself. Eden Park encourages fans to arrive early, offering free bus and train rides with concert tickets. Special event buses will also be running from the city and North Shore. Parking is limited, so plan accordingly!
